Emirates to Expand Premium Economy to 99 Destinations as Fleet Retrofit Accelerates

DUBAI, UAE: Emirates has revealed it has given a significant speed-up to its retrofit program, which is worth billions of dollars and will have Premium Economy available on 99 destinations by the close of 2026.

In its newest stage, the Dubai-based airline will finish reconfiguring its first high-density and two-class Airbus A380 by the middle of April. This is a big strategic step by the airline since it becomes the first airline to give up its highest-carrying aircraft format, 615 passengers, to a three-class format.

A New Classification of the Superjumbo.

The retrofitted A380s will have a total of 569 seats and comprise:

  • 76 Business Class (staggered 1-2-1) seats.
  • 56 Premium Economy seats (2-4-2 configuration on the main deck)
  • 437 Economy Class seats

The first of these enhanced high-capacity jets is planned to be serviced on 14 April 2026 and will serve between Dubai and Amman. The plane would begin its operation on the Dubai-Prague route on 1 June. Emirates will complete the transformation of all its high-density A380s to the new standard by November 2026.

Developing the Premium Network.

The statement also outlined several future rollouts of the Premium Economy cabin on the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets:

  • Zurich: Four class A380 services commence 1 March.
  • New York JFK: Routine A380 service begins 1 June.
  • Milan & Ho Chi Minh City: Retrofitted Boeing 777-200LR service starts 1 May.
  • Dublin: All 21 weekly flights will be for premium economy since 25 October.
  • Hong Kong: Enhanced A380 service begins 1 December.

Boosting Passenger Choice

A spokesperson of Emirates said that they are acting on the evidence and the increasing demand of our Premium Economy product. By restructuring our high-density fleet, we are guaranteeing better uniformity and a higher quality experience throughout our whole network.

The shift is an indication of a larger trend in the industry as companies in the airline sector focus more on yield rather than volume. Emirates will gain a bigger portion of the high-end leisure and business travel market by lowering the overall number of seats but boosting the number of premium mid-tier seats.

One of the priorities of the airline is the Premium Economy cabin, which has 19.5-inch-wide cream leather seats with a 40-inch seat pitch and an upgraded dining service with Royal Doulton chinaware.
