The Ciampino Airport in Rome, named Giovan Battista Pastine, is officially rated by the Skytrax international aviation authority as a 4-Star Regional Airport, and this is a huge milestone in the transformation of the airport.
The certification was announced in mid-January 2026 after a demanding quality audit conducted by Skytrax, the London based organisation that is known to conduct an assessment of airports and airlines in the global arena. The award ranks Ciampino as one of the best regional airports in Europe and has been recognised in terms of providing a stable and quality passenger experience.
A Boost for Passengers and Staff
The 4-Star rating of Skytrax demonstrates good performance in the most important areas of airport operation, such as:
• Terminal sanity and solace.
• Effective wayfinding and signage.
• Professional staff service
• Effective security and immigration inspections.
• Constant and uninterrupted passenger travel.
The analysis also revealed the enhancement of passenger facilities, including abundant power and power outlets, properly designed work zones, family, and special support of passengers with limited mobility. Other characteristics like children playground, table football and self-play musical instruments were observed to improve the general travelling experience.

Continuous Improvements Underway
Self-service check-in and bag drop facilities, efficient security check and simple boarding arrangements of the airport were applauded to assist in a fast flow of customers especially given the emphasis of Ciampino on short-haul and low-cost flights.
Moving forward, more upgrades of the terminals are to be organized up to the year 2026 to facilitate the uniformity of the washrooms and add new amenities such as nursery, smoking area and pet relief.

Strategic Position in Airport Network in Rome.
The Chief Executive of Ciampino pointed at the importance of such recognition in the context of the Rome airport system. The airport that accommodates millions of passengers per year and functions together with the main hub of the capital at Fiumicino is instrumental in linking Rome to Europe and other destinations.
The certification granted by Skytrax does not only recognize the excellence of the operations but also how the airport itself is determined to provide the quality of the traveling experience, cementing the role of the airport as the primary entry point to the capital of Italy.
