The national airline of Australia, Qantas, has officially started flight testing its long awaited Project Sunrise aircraft which will be known to launch the longest non-stop flights in the world.
The airline will soon be able to fly direct flights between Sydney and major cities in the world like London and New York and the trip will take up to 22 hours. These flights are to eliminate stopovers altogether, which will provide quicker and more convenient traveling to the passengers.
A New Age of Long-Haul Travel
The new planes are specifically made Airbus A350-1000 which are designed to travel over ultra-long distances. They come with extra fuel tanks and advanced engines to accommodate these record-breaking travels.
The 2026 testing is an important step in maintaining safety, performance, and passenger comfort prior to commercial operations.

Travel in Comfort, Arrive Refreshed
Qantas has placed strong emphasis on passenger experience, especially given the length of these flights. The aircraft will feature premium seating options, private suites, and dedicated spaces where travellers can stretch and move during the journey.
This design approach aims to reduce fatigue and improve overall wellbeing on long-haul trips, making ultra-long flights more comfortable than ever before.
Journey to Launch
The first aircraft deliveries are expected by the end of 2026, with commercial flights planned to begin in early 2027.
Ticket sales are likely to open later in 2026 as the airline moves closer to launch.

Why This Matters for Your Trip
Project Sunrise is set to change global travel by cutting journey times and offering direct connections between distant cities. It represents a major shift in aviation, bringing the world closer together with fewer delays and more seamless travel experiences.
