On 31st March 2025, after five years, the airline will start flying this route again. Using large Boeing 787 aeroplanes will operate four times a week.
In the future, the airline is considering more efficient Airbus A321XLR planes for this route.
Passengers can look forward to more convenient travel options between Ottawa and London. During the summer months, of 2020, Air Canada offered daily flights between Ottawa and London. In the winter season, the flight time was reduced to six days a week. During the pandemic time in March 2020, Air Canada stopped flights on this route, and the service has not been available since then.
Air Canada CEO Mark Gallardo believes London Heathrow is critical for the airline when it comes to planning flight routes and prices. He says it’s Air Canada’s largest international hub and a key connection point for travellers around the world.
Air Canada passengers can easily connect from LHR to many destinations in its partnership with other airlines in the Star Alliance.
Galardo adds that the airline will also evaluate the possibility of using A321XLRs between YOW and LHR when the aircraft takes delivery in 2025. “The economics, optimum cabin size, and range of the XLR, which is expected to begin arriving in late 2025, will enable us to consider operating this important international route with greater frequencies and potentially with year-round service,” Galardo says.
The airline plans to use these aircraft equally for international and domestic (North American) flights once they have all the aircraft in their fleet.
Before the pandemic, Air Canada offered seasonal flights between Ottawa (YOW) and Frankfurt.
In 2025, Air Canada is bringing back its Ottawa to London route.
