British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have announced that they are suspending flights to the Middle East on a large scale, and this is causing big disruption to the UK travelers. This decision comes after military action in the region and the subsequent closure of some of the major airspaces.
What is Happening?
Airspace restrictions or closures in the UAE, Qatar and Israel among other countries due to security reasons have been imposed following reports of strikes involving the US, and Israel and Iran. Large airlines have therefore cancelled services as a security measure to protect passengers and the crew.
Which Flights are Affected?
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have verified the cancellation of the flights to the next major hubs until at least March 15, 2026:
- Dubai (DXB)
- Abu Dhabi (AUH)
- Doha (DOH)
- Tel Aviv (TLV)
Other regional destinations such as Amman (Jordan) and Bahrain are also recording frequent cancellations and schedule changes.

Information for Passengers
In order to fly within two weeks, the key information to those who had booked a flight is as follows:
1. Free Changes: British Airways is providing its passengers with the opportunity to rebook their flights to fly before March 15,or March 29, 2026, with no extra fee.
2. Refunds: Customers who have booked to travel until March 8 can receive a full refund in case they have cancelled their flight.
3. Route Diversions: The flights to India, the Maldives and Southeast Asia are not canceled and are diverted. The mode of transport should expect a 3 to 5 hour change in the duration of the journey.
4. Check Before You Travel: The airports of Heathrow and Gatwick are encouraging all passengers to check online by their flight status before getting to the airport.
Looking Ahead
The Foreign Office of the UK has advised its citizens who are already in the affected areas to stay indoors and obey the instructions of the local administrations. Although, the situation is changing very fast, the airlines are optimistic that they will get back to normal schedules on March 15, as long as the airspace is declared safe.
