MOPA is a new airport in Goa, India. On December 11, 2022, the airport was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On January 5, 2023, the airport started operating domestic flights. Now people can fly to and from Goa.
MOPA airport’s new code, GOX. indigo has declared 168 weekly flights to and from MOPA. Indigo and Go First Airlines will connect Goa to other big cities in India, like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Hyderabad.
It is operated by the GMR group (Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao), and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport runs by this company. The airport is being developed with a focus on sustainability. In November 2016, the foundation for the construction of the airport was laid by the Prime Minister.
In each year, the first phase of the new airport will be able to handle 4.4 million travellers in Goa.
The first Goa International Airport is in South Goa, and the new international airport is in North Goa. MOPA is closer to the capital of Goa, Panjim than the old airport. Both airports will continue to function.
